Why does Skyrim keep freezing when I try to enter the castle for the companions quest?

For the companion radiant quest, the totems of hircine, skyrim keeps freezing during the loading spot every time i try to enter the little castle in the water. (it's at the very beginning of the quest). It happens EVERYTIME. What should I do?Why does Skyrim keep freezing when I try to enter the castle for the companions quest?
I had this same problem, but it happened when I tried to lower the drawbridge to let the Stormcloaks into Whiterun. Froze up three times in the exact same spot. I checked on some online forums and found out that turning off the autosave features can fix a lot of freeze-ups. Try that and see if it works (but remember that you'll have to manually save often).
I play skyrim on my PS3 and I had a similar problem trying to enter the Dawnstar sanctuary for the Darkbrotherhood quest line.

I got the game to stop locking up by turning all my quest tracking off, because it uses alot of RAM, and also simply waiting for a second infront of the door before entering so the coding catches up. Make sure when you restart your platform you give the console/computer a minute to rest, in extreme freezing spots all these techniques work for me- most of all turning quest tracking off. You'll find your game lags alot less aswell if you only track one mission at a time.

If you're playing on a PC after a quick search just before myself I saw there's some advice on scripting edits to help this problem.

Other than that all you can really do is save and continue trying over and over an eventually the game will load. Annoying but Skyrims a very, very buggy tempermental game as great as it is. Hope that helps. Why does Skyrim keep freezing when I try to enter the castle for the companions quest?
im playing it on xbox360 and 3/4 times i enter/exit a room sometimes the screen goes blank i press the xbox guide button and it doesn't appear but i can hear that it has popped up but cant see it what i do is turn the tv off wait ten seconds and turn it back on and that normally works so if you have a Computer maybe turn the monitor off for ten seconds and then on again hopefully it will work
could it be something in your inventory? save the game and drop everything you have then try entering to see if that could be the problem

good luckWhy does Skyrim keep freezing when I try to enter the castle for the companions quest?
Is your computer good enough to play the game, check in the back or the Skyrim CD box.
If it only freezes at that spot it means your disc is scratched. Try wiping it of with a cloth.
If it's the 360 version try installing it to your hard drive. they it again.
Have you tried cleaning your disc? Usually that works haha its pretty basic.
