Have you bought a house yet? If you haven't, perhaps this means you're spouse will only leave once you've given a house to live in.
If you have this, then I suggest trading her in for maybe another spouse: in other words, you might as well kill her.
Okay this never happened to me since my wife never followed me in the first place. There was no option for that. But I'd say talk to her/him and say that you want to move and select a house.
