well hehe the first step before you even think of anything else should be to join the thieves guild:

Visit the Warrens in Markarth. You'll see a guy waiting inside, leaned against the wall on the far right. Talk to him and he'll offer you training to the sneak skill.

The sneak skill is critical to becoming a master theif. The lockpicking and pickpocketing are also very important skills to pick up.

As far as species go, I'm a female Nord. (level 38 sneak, 30 lockpicking, and 23 pickpocketing)

I also highly recommend light armor (magicka robes are only 1 weight, you can change into armor when you're not snooping around. xD) Light armor muffles your sound and makes you more difficult to detect. What do you need to become a god thief in skyrim?
The species probably doesn't matter - the most sneaky species are the Khajit, but you could train any species up to the same level eventually.

The skills you'll NEED are Sneak, Pickpocketing and Lockpicking. Being a thief type means you will never be short on coin, can avoid having to go head on with enemies/gives you an alternative way to finish many quests - and may attract unwanted attention from guards.

Sneak everywhere you can - it will help you level up fast, especially if people are around. It will also give you a bit of warning if something spots you in the wilderness! I've got level 100 sneak now, and it's pretty awesome. Sneak isn't just good for stealing and not getting attacked, it also provides some very good bonuses to attacking people - so you can shoot someone, hide, shoot them again, or sneak up and kill them with one hit from a dagger.

So the main weapons for a thief are bows and daggers.

Pickpocketing and Lockpicking are the other two skills; both are just something to practice at every opportunity and they'll level up fairly steadily. Lockpicking is really useful while wandering in dungeons, as there are often locked chests, and for getting into houses while people are out (often needed in quests). It's got an 'in game animation' which is something you can get better at, without having to 'waste' perks in making locks easier. Plus, lockpicks weigh nothing, so if you're carrying 50 or more, you're sweet for almost anything.
Pickpocketing is just funny, mostly - but at high levels, lets you actually take the weapons and armour of enemies, making them much easier to fight. That, and you can find some nice loot that way.

Light armour is better than heavy, though you can get various perks in both light and heavy armour, and Sneak, that mean your armour doesn't matter much. Basically weight = noisy.

You can join the Thieves Guild in Riften - obviously they're the best place to learn Sneaking skills and pick up lots of theft-related jobs. The assassins are the other sneaky group - you have to kill Grelod the Kind in the orphanage in Riften, find Aventus Aretino in Windhelm, and then wait for the Dark Brotherhood to contact you.

Basically, practice a lot and don't get caught.
Join the theives guild. once you complete enough missions for them, you will become a nightingale. become an agent of stealth, and then activate the shadowcloak of nocturnal. What do you need to become a god thief in skyrim?
thers is no point as there is nothing in the game worth stealing the only perk about being a stealth char is to do sneak kills, but guildmaster and nightngale and ebony mail are ur best bets
